Human Body Parts and Their Functions
Hello pupils! Today we will learn about the different parts of our body and what each part does.
1. Brain
The brain controls all body functions, including movement, sensation, and thought. It is like the computer that runs our body.
2. Heart
The heart pumps blood throughout the body to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the cells. It beats about 100,000 times per day!
3. Lungs
The lungs take in oxygen from the air and remove carbon dioxide from the body. We have two lungs, one on each side of our chest.
4. Stomach
The stomach breaks down food into smaller pieces so that it can be digested. It uses acids and muscles to do this work.
5. Liver
The liver produces bile to help digest fats. It also cleans the blood and stores important nutrients.
6. Kidneys
The kidneys filter waste products from the blood and produce urine. We have two kidneys in our lower back area.
7. Bones
Bones provide support for the body, protect vital organs, and produce blood cells. The human body has 206 bones.
8. Muscles
Muscles enable movement and provide support for the body. We use muscles every time we move.
9. Skin
Skin protects the body from damage and infection, and helps regulate body temperature. Skin is the largest organ in the human body.
Evaluation
- Describe 5 human body parts and their uses.
Week 3
Topic: Soil: Loamy Soil and Sandy Soil
Class: Primary 2
Subject: Basic Science
Learning Objectives
- Identify sites to collect soil samples
- Distinguish between loamy soil and sandy soil
Learning Resources
- Audio-visual resources
- Soil samples with labels
Lesson Content
Loamy Soil
Loamy soil is a well-balanced soil type that consists of a mixture of sand, silt, and clay. It has a crumbly texture, which makes it easy to work with.
Loamy soil is generally rich in nutrients and can hold water well. It can support the growth of a wide variety of plants and is considered to be one of the best soil types for gardening and farming.
Sandy Soil
Sandy soil is a soil type that is primarily composed of sand particles. It has a gritty texture and a loose, open structure.
Sandy soil cannot hold water well and can quickly become dry, which makes it difficult for plants to grow in. Sandy soil is also low in nutrients and often requires the addition of fertilizers to support plant growth.
Evaluation
- Explain sandy soil and loamy soil.
- Which soil is better for farming? Give a reason.
