What Is the New Life in Christ?
New life in Christ means starting over with God. It is often called being “Born Again” spiritually. Just as a baby is born into a physical family, a person who believes in Jesus is born into God’s spiritual family. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Living Differently as Christians
When we have this new life, we do not act the same way we used to. There are three key changes:
- Turning away from sin: We stop doing things that make God sad and choose to do what is right.
- Following Jesus: We look at how Jesus lived — He was kind, patient, and prayerful — and we try to be like Him every day.
- Growing in Faith: Just like a plant needs water to grow, our new life needs the Bible and prayer to grow strong.

Changed Behavior in the New Life
When we receive the new life in Jesus, it must show in the way we act, talk, and treat others. People should be able to see that we are different because we follow Jesus. A changed life has several clear characteristics:
- Being Kind and Loving: We care for others and avoid fighting or bullying.
- Being Honest and Truthful: A child of God does not tell lies or cheat in examinations.
- Obeying Authority: We obey our parents, teachers, and elders as a way of honoring God.
- Helping Others: Like the Good Samaritan, we look for ways to be useful to those in need.
Spiritual Habits That Keep the New Life Healthy
To keep our new life strong, we must build good spiritual habits every day:
- Read the Bible daily.
- Pray without ceasing.
- Attend church services regularly to learn more about God.
Being a Light to the World — Matthew 5:14-16
Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” A light is meant to be seen, not hidden. Our good behavior is like a light that helps others see the way to God. When we do good things, people notice and give glory to our Father in heaven. Being a “light” does not mean carrying a torch — it means being a good example to everyone around us.

Who Is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is God. The Trinity is the name we give to the three persons who are one God:

Jesus’ Promise
Before Jesus went back to heaven, He promised His disciples that He would not leave them alone. He promised to send “The Comforter” or “The Helper” — the Holy Spirit — to live inside them and guide them through life.
The Day of Pentecost — Acts 2:1-4
Ten days after Jesus went to heaven, the disciples were gathered together in Jerusalem. Three things happened suddenly:
- There was a sound like a rushing mighty wind that filled the whole house.
- Tongues of fire appeared and sat upon each of the disciples.
- They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages they had never learned before.
The Holy Spirit Lives in Believers Today
The Holy Spirit is not just for the disciples of old. Today, when we believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts. He gives us the power to do God’s work and the strength to live as Jesus taught us.
