The Concept of Swimming
Hello pupils! Today we will learn about swimming.
Swimming is the act of moving through water using your arms, legs, or both. It is a fun activity and also a sport. You can swim in a pool, lake, river, or ocean.
People swim for many reasons. Some swim to stay fit and healthy. Others swim to relax and have fun. Some people even compete in swimming races!
5 Basic Swimming Skills for Beginners
1. Breathing
Breathing is very important in swimming. If you can’t breathe properly, you won’t enjoy swimming.
Here’s what to do: When your head is underwater, breathe out through your nose and mouth. When you lift your head to the side, take a full breath before putting your face back in the water.
2. Floating
Before you start kicking and moving, learn to float. Floating means staying on top of the water without sinking.
Floating helps keep your body in a flat position. It’s very important! If you fall in water by accident, you can float on the surface until someone rescues you.
3. Body Coordination
In swimming, all parts of your body must work together. Your arms, legs, back, stomach, and hips must move in a coordinated way.
Your hands move first and cut through the water. Then your elbows follow. Finally, your whole body moves through the water.
4. Kicking
Kicking is another important skill. Your legs kick to push your body forward through the water.
5. Strokes
After you learn to float and kick, you can learn strokes. Strokes are the arm movements that pull your body through the water.
Some common swimming strokes are: front crawl, sidestroke, backstroke, and butterfly.
